FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf women’s volleyball team was back in action for a conference game at home against Mayville State University for senior night. The Warriors fell in four sets, 23-25, 25-22, 13-25, 18-25.
The first was a back and forth battle between the two teams. Both teams had an impressive 16 kills for the set, but Mayville State had four less hitting errors than Waldorf. Senior Abygail Wood (Ankeny, IA) went perfect with six kills on six attempts with no errors. Junior Kenzie Kidd (Roscoe, IL) also added six kills.
In another back and forth battle, the Warriors were able to control and take set two with 19 kills. Freshman Anna Longhenry (Fenton, IA) had five kills with only one error on 10 attempts to lead the Warriors. Kidd, Wood, Charlotte Wright (JR/Porter, MN), and Zoee Pond (SO/Monroe, WI) each added three kills.
The Comets answered to take the next two sets. Longhenry had seven kills and Wood added four block assists in the last two sets.
“I am proud of our fight and our commitment – we continue to battle through our adversity,” Head Coach Bri Ebenhoe stated. “Even as we are looking to be a more consistent team, we look forward to our next matches to show our improvement. I love the fight that this group brings and I wouldn’t want to finish this fight with anyone else.”
The Warriors had three athletes with double digit kills and digs. Kidd finished with a double-double, 13 kills and 12 digs. Wood added 12 kills with seven block assists and Longhenry tallied a team high of 14 kills. Freshmen libero, Macy Stratton (Luverne, MN) had 15 digs and junior Alisha Schaefer (Mount Calvary, WI) added 14. Senior setter, Kaitlyn Bakke (Forest Lake, MN) had 43 assists and nine digs.
The women’s volleyball team has concluded their home game schedule. Next up is a conference weekend series starting with Dickinson State University on Friday, October 28th at 7pm.
