FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Waldorf Women’s Volleyball team continued conference play this evening with a match against Valley City State University. The Warriors fell in five, 25-17, 14-25, 28-26, 19-25, 13-15.
The Warriors came out strong and in control for set 1. The team had 10 kills and two blocks. Junior outside hitter, Kenzie Kidd (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah HS) had half of the kills herself. The Vikings were able to bounce back and take set 2, having 13 kills with two blocks. Set 3 was a battle, with 14 tie scores and eight lead changes. The Vikings may had one more kill than the Warriors this set, but Waldorf had less errors and two more blocks to help take the third set.
Set 4 was a tough set for both teams, with neither having double digit kills. Abygail Wood (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial HS), junior middle blocker, had an impressive four kills on seven attempts with no errors. Valley City State was able to force a fifth set. The Warriors had one more kill and two blocks against the Vikings, but service errors hurt them in this set.
Wood finished the match with 11 kills on 24 attempts, with zero errors, ending the match with a .428 hitting percentage and eight blocks. Kidd finished with a double-double, 13 kills and 11 digs. Senior setter, Kaitlyn Bakke (Forest Lake, MN/Forest Lake HS) had 36 assists with 10 digs. The Warriors as a team finished with 12 blocks.
“Tough loss tonight to a good team, but we don’t have time to dwell on it. Our journey to achieve our goals continues tomorrow and we will be ready,” Head Coach Bri Ebenhoe said on the match. “Again, our fan and student section was incredible and they brought an amazing atmosphere to the Hanson Fieldhouse.”
The Warriors are back for another conference match against Dickinson State University on Saturday, September 24th. First serve is at 1pm.
