FOREST CITY, Iowa – The women’s volleyball team bounced back after a tough loss against (8)Viterbo by having a home match against Iowa Wesleyan University on Thursday evening. This was the third time the Warriors played the Tigers this year and third win, resulting in a sweep.
The Warriors came out strong in the first set with outside hitter Kenzie Kidd (JR/Roscoe, IL) having a team high of seven kills with only one error and middle-blocker Abygail Wood (SR/Ankeny, IA) had three block assists to take the first set 25-17.
In the second set, the duo of right-side hitter Zoee Pond (SO/Monroe, WI) and Wood led the defense with three block assists each. Kidd four kills for the offense and middle-blocker Charlotte Wright (JR/Porter, MN) added three more for a 25-20 win.
Wood record two more kills and two solo blocks to lead the way in the third set. The Warriors took set three 25-11.
Kidd finished the match with a double-double of 14 kills and 15 digs. Wood had four kills and led the team with blocks, two solo and seven assists. Pond added four block assists. Libero Kaylee Kidd (JR/Roscoe, IL) had a team high of 11 digs. Setter Kaitlyn Bakke (SR/Forest Lake, MN) had 23 assists and five aces.
“I was happy to see our improvements pay off in a win. We saw contributions in so many different ways: Kenzie led us in kills, Aby was tremendous in her blocking, and Kaitlyn was effective in serving and running our offense,” Head Coach Bri Ebenhoe said on the sweep. “It’s a good time to see a balanced and diversified team leading into the second half of the conference season and we are excited to show our improvement.”
The Warriors are now 10-8. Next up is a home conference game on Thursday, October 20th against Presentation at 7pm.
