Weekend Preview: #16 Lady Vols Travel to Coastal Carolina, Wofford

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The 16th-ranked Tennessee Lady Vols continue their four-match road swing this weekend, taking on Coastal Carolina and Wofford for the first time in the Eve Rackham Watt era.

The Lady Vols start their trip Saturday against the Chanticleers for a two-match series. The first contest will begin at 5 p.m. ET on Saturday night and the second at 1 p.m. on Sunday. UT rounds out the trip on Monday with a 5 p.m. match against the Terriers. All three matches will be available for streaming on ESPN+.

This will be the first meeting since 2014 for Tennessee and Coastal Carolina, but the two squads were close to playing last year. The Chanticleers won the Sun Belt Conference and earned a spot in Knoxville for the opening rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Coastal eventually fell to Western Kentucky, who Tennessee also played earlier this week.

The Lady Vols swept the Terriers in their last matchup in 2017 and are 2-0 overall all time. Wofford is off to a 5-2 start to the season and are coming off a sweep against Winthrop.

Tennessee has won three matches in a row after starting the season 0-2 against a pair of top-10 teams. The Big Orange swept No. 25 UCLA and LIU last week before then outlasting WKU in a five-set thriller on the road Tuesday.

Redshirt sophomore setter Caroline Kerr garnered SEC Player and Setter of the Week honors after the wins against the Bruins and Sharks last week. Against Western Kentucky, Kerr recorded her sixth 50-plus assist match of her career and first of the season.

Freshman right side Paityn Chapman garnered SEC Freshman of the Week after a standout performance last week and recorded 15 kills on .364 hitting, eight digs and five blocks against WKU. During UT’s three-match win streak, she’s tallied 31 kills on .338 hitting, 15 digs and 11 blocks.
