SEATTLE — The Dawgs spend a third consecutive week on the road and for the second-straight week they open with a top-10 opportunity, as UW will look to topple 6th-ranked Oregon this Friday evening in Eugene. Washington (9-4, 0-2 Pac-12) is hunting for its first conference win and there’d be no better place to pick it up than Matthew Knight Arena against a 12-1 Ducks squad. After Friday’s match, the Huskies will face the Oregon State Beavers (5-7, 0-2 Pac-12) in Corvallis to kick off October. Both matches will be televised live on Pac-12 Networks, with Friday’s match on the national channel, and Sunday’s 12 noon match available on Pac-12 Oregon.

This is week five on the road in the first six weeks of the season for the Huskies. After this weekend, UW will have just three road trips left in the final two months of the season and will play 10 of the next 16 conference matches at home. 

Last week the Huskies had a straight set loss at No. 7 Washington State, where May Pertofsky was a standout with 12 kills on a .333 percentage. Then UW had to head to Tempe, Ariz. where it was unable to end ASU’s unbeaten start despite winning the first set. Freshman Katy Wessels had her best match, with 8 kills on .500 hitting, but UW’s typically tough serving was missing at ASU, as the Huskies had no aces against 14 service errors. The young squad continues to seek consistency to produce more sets like the first one in Tempe, where the Huskies hit .429 to take the early lead.

Oregon’s only loss was a five-setter to a top-10 Minnesota team, and the Ducks had big nonconference wins over No. 8 Pittsburgh and ranked San Diego, Ohio State, and Marquette squads. Oregon opened conference play beating Oregon State and going on the road to beat UCLA. The Ducks are hitting .309 for the year, third in the conference. They are second with 14.02 kills per set and second with 2.77 blocks per set. Mimi Colyer ranks second in the league with 4.36 kills per set and Hannah Pukis is second in assists at 10.72.
