ANN ARBOR, Mich.–– The Northwestern volleyball team took the first set, but couldn’t hang on and fell in four sets (25-23, 15-25, 19-25, 23-25) to the Michigan Wolverines Friday at Cliff Keen Arena.
The loss dropped Northwestern’s record to 17-10 overall and 6-9 in Big Ten play.
The Wildcats offense was paced by Temi Thomas-Ailara, who finished with 21 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .311. Megan Miller’s 13 digs led the ‘Cats defensively.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Wildcats persevered in a back-and-forth first set to win 25-23 in a stanza that featured four lead changes and was tied eight times. Neither team led by more than four points in the match. got a solid defensive performance from a front row that blocked six Michigan attacks in the stanza.
SET 2 | Northwestern then dropped set two 25-15, evening things at a set apiece. The Wildcats lost the first point and never clawed back into the lead before dropping the set.
SET 3 | Northwestern fell again in the third set to make it a 2-1 deficit. The Wildcats dropped a tough set 25-19. Northwestern trailed by as many as six points as Michigan grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up seven times before the Wolverines took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Northwestern lost set four and the match, falling 25-23. The Wolverines took the first point and led wire to wire to take the set and the match.
