Wildcats Take Down No. 14 Georgia State


HONOLULU – The Arizona beach volleyball team earned a split on Sunday at the University of Hawaii, defeating No. 14 Georgia State, 3-2, in the afternoon before falling to No. 8 Hawaii, 4-1, in the evening. It is the third win over a ranked opponent this season for the Wildcats (19-9).
 
Against GSU, Miranda Erro and Annie Kost got things started with a 21-13, 21-10 victory at No. 5. After the Panthers claimed wins at No. 4 and No. 3, Arizona evened things back up with a two-set victory at No. 2 from Abby Russell and Hope Shannon.
 
The decisive match was the No. 1’s and it went to a third set before Sarah Blacker and Alex Parkhurst came out on top, 15-10.
 
In the evening match against the Rainbow Wahine, it was Hawaii that jumped out to the 2-0 lead with wins at No. 4 and No. 5 pairs.
 
At No. 3 pair, Alana Rennie and Grace Cook won the first set of their match, but dropped the second and eventually fell in the third set to clinch the dual for UH.
 
Abby Russell and Hope Shannon got the lone win for Arizona at No. 2 pair, winning in three sets.
 
The Wildcats will be back at Bear Down Beach on Friday, April 21 to host Arizona State for Senior Day. The match is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m. with senior day recognitions taking place prior to the start of the match.
