Women’s Volleyball Can’t Find It’s Footing as They Fall to CCSU

Sacred Heart

NEW BRITAIN, CT. – The Merrimack Women’s Volleyball team looked to get back on track and push for a postseason bid but continued their skid with a three set loss to the Blue Devils of CCSU.

The Basics

Score: CCSU 3, Merrimack 0

Records: CCSU (6-19, 5-8), Merrimack (7-20, 6-7)

How It Happened

Coming into today the Warriors needed to win out for a chance to make NEC postseason play. They had a great chance against a team they had defeated prior earlier on in the year. The first set looked like the battle it was supposed to be. CCSU held a 19-13 lead but it was the Warriors fighting back scoring 7 of 9 points to be down just one. The two teams traded points and it took 28 points to decide a first set winner as the Blue Devils took it away with the 28-26 win.

The second set was not close. Merrimack failed to do much of anything as CCSU trounced them early and often. A mid set 11-3 takeover by the Blue Devils put them ahead and there was no looking back as they rolled to a 25-16 set three win.

The Warriors were looking for any sort of answer and avoid the sweep. The third set was close for much of it. Merrimack held a lead as late as 20-19 over the Blue Devils but it was CCSU taking over and winning 25-21 to complete the sweep and end the postseason hopes of Merrimack.
