WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Saint Michael’s College women’s volleyball team lost at Northeast-10 Conference power University of New Haven, 3-0 (25-11, 25-10, 25-7), on Saturday evening in Charger Gymnasium. New Haven has won six NE10 Championships since 2008.

THE ACTION

  • The Purple Knights nabbed a trio of early two-point leads in the opening set, once apiece on kills by Báez Rentas and Gallagher. A 5-0 run by New Haven put the hosts up 8-5, and the visitors later were down only 13-8 on an O’Connor kill. The Chargers scored 12 of the next 15 points to clinch the set.
  • New Haven forged a 11-1 start in the second set before Saint Michael’s cut the deficit to single digits on four occasions, including when Gallagher and junior Caroline Curley (Duxbury, Mass./Duxbury) each put down a kill. The Chargers never led by fewer than nine points from there.
  • The hosts scored the first nine points in set No. 3, and the Purple Knights never again came closer than eight points, when junior Beth Syverson (Huntington, Vt./Mount Mansfield Union/Emmanuel [Mass.]) dropped a kill at 10-2.
