Women’s Volleyball Drops Match to Toledo in Four Sets

BINGHAMTON, NY, – The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team rounded out the Binghamton Invitational with a four set loss to the University of Toledo.

Records: Toledo (3-0), Merrimack (0-3)

 

Rapid Recap

The first set began neck and neck with both teams trading blows. The Rockets would gain momentum in the second half of the set to win by a score of 24-11. Merrimack would fiercely respond in the second set doubling their lead off a series of kills by Hannah Webber and Ella Gizmunt. The Warriors built their largest lead at 19-11 with tandem efforts from Webber, and Mattiucci. The Rockets gathered steam off minor errors from the Warriors, tying the Score at 24. The sophomore Marissa Kobelski would deliver a crucial kill to land the two point victory for the Warriors.

After capturing the tight second set win, the Warriors would look for another victory in the third set. They started off strong, scoring the first four points however, Toledo would gain momentum in the second half of the set to put a seven lead jump on the Warriors. Merrimack fought hard to close the gap to just three points but Toledo ultimately came away with the win, 25-20. In set four, which would end up being the final set of the match, the teams battled back and forth. Merrimack kept the score close, capitalizing off the Rockets ball handling errors but ultimately fell to Toledo, 25-20.
