Women’s Volleyball Drops Pair of Matches to Conclude Worthington Classic

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Elmira College Women’s Volleyball team dropped a pair of 3-0 decisions on Saturday afternoon against Washington College and DeSales to wrap up the Worthington Classic. Maddie Boucher ’24 paced the Soaring Eagles with a combined 12 blocks on the afternoon, while Asia Curkendall ’25 added 30 assists and 20 digs.

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (5-9, 0-0 E8), Washington College (8-3, 0-0 CENTENNIAL)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Washington held the advantage in nearly each statistical category, which included a 10-1 advantage in service aces throughout the match. After falling behind 2-0 in the first set, the Soaring Eagles went on a 9-0 run which included seven errors from the opposition during the span. From there, the Geese were able to put together a 10-2 run of its own, regaining the lead at 12-11. From there, kills from Calli Vocke ’23 and Makenna Clark ’25 evened the opening set once again at 13-13, but a 6-0 run to conclude the opening set from Washington College put the opposition ahead 1-0 in the match with a 25-18 set victory. 

The second set would begin with both teams exchanging points before a 6-0 run put the Geese ahead 11-5. Elmira would take five of the next seven points which included a kill from Vocke and three Washington errors, but an 8-2 run from the opposition to close the frame put the visitors ahead 2-0 in the match with a 25-16 second set victory.
