Women’s Volleyball Drops Weekend Finale Against LIU

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team was defeated by Long Island University, Saturday afternoon at Hammel Court. 

 

The Basics

Score: Merrimack 0 Long Island 3

Records: Merrimack (4-12, 2-3 NEC) | Long Island University (9-8, 4-1 NEC)

 

Rapid Recap

The Warriors started off the first set slowly, the Warriors were able to string multiple short scoring streaks, scoring on multiple serves including a streak of five of seven points at the end of the set but fell by a score of 25-16.

 

In the second set, Merrimack again fell behind early but battled back to cut their deficit to three at the halfway point of set 2 including having a run of four consecutive points, and when the Sharks extended their lead to eight, Merrimack battled back, cutting the deficit to five and making LIU earn the second set victory as they nearly completed the comeback, before falling by a score of 25-20. 

 

In the final set Merrimack took their previous set momentum and took the lead early, but it didn’t last however the Warriors did not break. They kept the score close throughout having three back to back point streaks keeping the difference at three, before the Sharks went on a run and won the third and final set,

 

Top Performers // Notes

Julz Carlat led the team in kills with 10 and tied Lauryn Mattiuci in successful digs with 11.

Quinn Kellogg led the team in assists with 20.

Sydney Green had two blocks.
