Women’s Volleyball Falls to Long Island

NORTH ANDOVER, MASS. – Merrimack College women’s volleyball suffered a loss on Friday night to Long Island University. The Warriors were led by Brooke Leestma who had eight kills and Quinn Kellogg who had 11 assists.

The Basics:

Set Breakdown:

  • Early on in the first set the Warriors went up by one after a service ace by Kellogg. Merrimack went up 7-5 after a LIU attacking error. Both teams traded blows until the Sharks went on a three-point run to pull ahead by five. The Warriors countered with a three-point run of their own highlighted by a kill from Kara Haase. Merrimack brought the LIU lead to one after a Shark attacking error, 19-18. LIU finished the set on a 5-0 run and won the set by seven.
  • The Sharks came out on fire in the second set, going up by nine out of the gate. Maegan Hladick had a kill for the Warriors midway through the set. LIU went on a 7-0 run to make the score 19-3. Towards the end of the set the Warriors battled back with a 4-0 run, highlighted by a kill from Maalese Wallace and a service ace from Megan Rumenapp.
  • In the third set the Warriors took a two-point lead after a service ace from Kellogg. The Sharks battled back going on a 4-0 run to take a two-point advantage. LIU then went on to score seven points in a row to take a commanding seven-point lead. The Warriors battled back. A service ace…
