Women’s Volleyball Falls to Misericordia on Wednesday Evening

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College Women’s Volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision in non-conference play to the visiting Cougars from Misericordia University on Wednesday evening. After a difficult first set, the Soaring Eagles would bounce back to tie the match before the Cougars took the third and fourth frames to take the match.

Amelia Martin ’23 paced the Soaring Eagles with eight kills, while Kayla Neer ’26 tacked on four service aces.

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (6-16, 1-4 E8), Misericordia (16-6, 3-2 MAC Freedom)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Cougars got out to a hot start in the opening set, which they would eventually take 25-11. As a team, the visitors hit .308% in the set, using eight kills and zero attacking errors to its advantage. 

The Soaring Eagles were quick to turn around in set two, it’s lone victory of the evening. After falling behind 16-15, Neer would serve Elmira to four consecutive points in order to regain the lead, 19-16. The Cougars would take the next four points to retake the advantage before a service ace from Sydney Meyers ’23 and kills from Martin (2) and Calli Vocke ’23 (1) pushed the Elmira lead to 24-20. From there, a Misericordia service error would give EC the set, 25-22. 

Tied heading into the third, the Cougars would post its best hitting percentage on the evening (.417), recording 18 kills compared to Elmira’s ten. The Cougars would take the set, and the eventual fourth 25-22 and 25-12,…
