Women’s Volleyball Falters Against Canisius

BUFFALO, NY– The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team fell to conference foe Canasius in four sets on Sunday.

Records: Merrimack (6-16, 5-6), Canisius (11-11, 7-4)
 
How It Happened
The Golden Griffins took an early edge on the Warriors, going up 10-5. Mckenna Shotwell delivered three kills mid set to keep Canasius within striking distance. Sophia DeBonis assisted a three-point run late in the first set which ultimately wasn’t enough to overtake the Griffins. Canasius won the first set 25-19 and would follow it up with another win, 25-9. The Warriors found their footing in the third, by holding a one-point lead for most of the set. Julz Carlat closed it out strongly for the Warriors, as Merrimack captured the third set victory, 25-21. Merrimack scored the first seven points of the fourth set and then doubled their lead 14-7. The Warriors kept the Griffins on their heels, forcing them to battle hard for every point. It took three straight points from Canasius to claim the fourth set win, 25-22.
