How It Happened

Merrimack and Providence saw a seesaw battle early on in the first set. The Warriors kicked off the scoring with a quick answer from the Friars. The two teams battled back and forth with Providence pulling away midway through the first with an unprecedented 8-0 run that put them ahead 19-9. The Friars finished off the set with a win 25-15.

Set number two was rough from the start for the Warriors as Providence strung together 8 straight points to start it. Merrimack finally got on the board with a point to trail by 7. However, MC was never able to get back into it and would drop the second, 25-15.

The third and final set of the evening was the most closely contested one. Merrimack would score the first three points capitalizing on service and attack errors from the Friars and finishing it off with a Ashley Gajdzik kill. Providence quickly responded with three points of their own before the two teams traded points and runs through the midpoint of the set. PC was able to pull away by scoring seven of the final nine points in the match and coming away with a 25-19 set three victory and a clean sweep of the Warriors.
