Women’s Volleyball Loses in Three Sets in Season Opener

VESTAL, NY- The Merrimack College Women’s Volleyball team lost in three straight sets to the Binghamton Bearcats in the first game of the Binghamton Invitational on August 30th.

How it Happened
The Bearcats jumped out to a two-set lead early on, winning set 1 by a score of 25-16, and set 2 by a score of 25-14. However, the Warriors showed grit in the third set, going neck and neck with the Bearcats and trading points the whole way. They even took the lead 19-18 at one point in the set. The Warriors were tied with the Bearcats two different times in the third set at 19-19 and 22-22. Despite their efforts, the Warriors came up short in set 3 by a score of 25-23.
 
Notes and Numbers

  • Sophie DeBonis led the assists category with 14, Lilly Conrad followed suit with 11
  • Lauryn Mattiucci recorded 11 digs
  • Julz Carlat had 10 points and 9 kills
  • Hannah Webber had 10 points, 10 kills and 6 digs
  • Aubrey Baker got her first collegiate marks with 4 kills and 2 blocks
