Women’s Volleyball Loses Non Conference Match to Bryant

Stonehill

SMITHFIELD, RI – The Merrimack Women’s Volleyball team dropped a non conference game on the road to Bryant in 4 sets.

The Basics

Score:
Bryant 3, Merrimack 1

Records: Bryant (16-10, 3-3) , Merrimack (6-16, 5-4)

How It Happened

The first set against the former NEC foe started off good but did not end well for the Warriors. Each team traded leads and points early before a six point barrage from the Bulldogs. With that cushion Bryant was able to coast their way to a set one win, 25-16.

The second set was much closer. Merrimack battled with Bryant and took an early 14-6 lead. The Warriors looked poised to tie the match at one a piece. However, Bryant came roaring back headlined by a trio of big runs to take a 21-19 lead and ultimately close out the set, 25-22.

The Warriors looked to avoid a three set sweep and they would do just that. Merrimack was dominant in set three. They started with a 4-1 lead and from there it was about matching the Bulldogs attack. Merrimack was able to do that and more. The Warriors would score 7 of the final 8 points to claim a 25-18 set three victory.

Merrimack would look to force a fifth and final set against a tough opponent in Bryant. It looked like that was going to happen as the two teams were neck and neck for most of the set with the edge leaning towards Merrimack as they were up 17-16. It would be tied at 18 before the Bulldogs scored 7 of the final 8 points to finish off the match with a 25-19 set 4 win.
