Women’s Volleyball Magnifies Momentum with Win Over Manhattan

RIVERDALE, N.Y.– The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team secured an powerful victory in a hard fought five set battle against Manhattan.

How It Happened
 
The first set began neck and neck and stayed that way. Both teams were tied at 25, looking to notch the final two points for the win. Ultimately, it was the Jaspers who registered the final two points, with a service ace and kill to take an early 1-0 lead in the match. The Warriors remained persistent in the second set, holding a two point advantage for the first nine points. A successful 4 point run from the Jaspers would put Manhattan up 1. Mckenna Shotwell kept things rolling for the Warriors, hammering one kill and two consecutive service aces to retake the lead, 13-12. The Warriors used this momentum to orchestrate a 5-1 run, featuring two service aces from Marissa Kobelski which forced Manhattan to use their timeout. The Jaspers made it a one score game, tallying three kills and a service ace. Both teams traded points for the remainder of the set until Julz Carlat registered the final kill to overtake the Jaspers, 26-24.
 

Manhattan took the early advantage in the third set with a 6-2 run. The Jaspers held a two point lead for the first half, however, a service ace from Lilly Konrad tied the score at 13. Manhattan was able to regain a two point lead which didn’t last long as two attack errors sparked resurgence on the Warriors…
