Women’s Volleyball Overpowered by Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, CT – The Merrimack College Women’s Volleyball team fell in three sets to conference foe Fairfield on Sunday.  
 
The Basics
Score: Fairfield 3, Merrimack 0
Records: Merrimack (2-14, 1-4), Fairfield (7-9, 5-0)
 
How It Happened
The Warriors cruised to a 5-3 advantage in the opening set however the Stags responded with a pair of kills coming from Janna Schlageter and a team service ace to command the lead. The Stags began to pull away in the later half and took a 17-7 lead over the Warriors. The Warriors would respond with four kills but ultimately could not get past the Stags, losing 25-13. Fairfield would take the upper hand in the second set, registering 5 straight points to extend an 8-1 lead. Marissa Kobelski had three kills late in the set, looking to close the gap between the Stags but ultimately the Warriors could not overcome the Fairfield lineup and dropped the second set by the same margin, 25-13. The third set began with the Stags taking a 4-0 lead. The Warriors best chance came in the end of the set where they ignited a 3-1 run, but Fairfield would answer with two points to win the set 25-12.
