Women’s Volleyball Recognizes Class of 2024 on Saturday Afternoon

ELMIRA, N.Y. – The Elmira College women’s volleyball team honored the Class of 2024 on Saturday afternoon, paying tribute to Maddie Boucher ’24, Cassidy Ryan ’24, and Deanna Hathway ’24. The Soaring Eagles, who took on Hartwick in the morning slot, dropped its Empire 8 matchup in straight sets before taking a set from Vassar in its afternoon non-conference loss. 

For the day, Elmira received 17 kills from Boucher, 39 set assists from Asia Curkendall ’25, and eight service aces from Makenna Clark ’25

SCORE: Elmira 0, Hartwick 3 (Game One)

              Elmira 1, Vassar 3 (Game Two)

TEAM RECORDS: Elmira (6-13, 0-4 Empire 8), Hartwick (8-7, 3-1 Empire 8), Vassar (9-8, 2-1 Liberty League)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • For the senior class, Boucher would lead the way in the pair of games with 17 kills, 22 digs, and three total blocks, while Hathway recorded two digs and five set assists. Ryan would round out the class, recording two kills, a service ace, and six digs. 
  • In game one, the Soaring Eagles would struggle from the attacking side, hitting -.030 as a team compared to .168 for Hartwick. Elmira would record 21 kills in the match, compared to 31 for the Hawks. 
  • Against the Brewers, EC would hit .074% as a team, while Vassar hit .290 with 55 kills. Elmira would take the first set of the afternoon 26-24, while Clark produced five service aces alone, including a stretch of four consecutive. The Brewers would take the final three sets of the afternoon 25-14, 25-17, and 25-18,…
