How It Happened

This was definitely not the way Merrimack wanted to celebrate their senior and alumni night against the best team in the NEC in FDU. The first set got out of hand rather quickly when the Knights jumped out to a 13-6 lead. At that point the Warriors tried to scrape back but it was the potent FDU attack that continued to press the gas pedal. They would end it with a 25-12 set one win.

The second set was not particularly close. FDU grabbed the advantage after an eight to nothing run to go up 14-8. After that the Warriors couldn’t put a stop to the relentless attack of FDU as they would roll to a set two victory in dominating fashion, 25-15.

The third set was nothing like the first two. We got to see a little bit of everything. The Knights once again had the edge early on and continued it midway through at 18-11. They looked to put the exclamation point on the Warriors but Merrimack was not gonna go away quietly. They came roaring back scoring 7 of 8 points to trail by just one. After trading a few points back and forth it was 21-19 but it was FDU putting the stranglehold on the match notching 4 of the final 7 points and taking a third set win, 25-22, to claim a three set victory.
