Women’s Volleyball Trail Blazed by Pioneers

FAIRFIELD, CT – The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team came up short in Fairfield Connecticut, falling to the Sacred Heart University Pioneers in three sets.
 
The Basics
Score: Sacred Heart 3, Merrimack 0
Records: Merrimack (2-13, 1-3), Sacred Heart (7-9, 3-1)
 
How It Happened
The Pioneers won the first five points of the set and then doubled their lead to make it 10-5. The Warriors would look to close the gap and managed to hold the pioneers to a three point lead but the Pioneers regained their footing and would win the set, 25-15. The second set began neck and neck with both teams trading points. The Pioneers would continue to battle fiercely and would extend a 20-11 lead over the Warriors which Merrimack could not come back from. The Pioneers would win the second set 25-18. In the third set, the Pioneers would score first and capitalize on the Warriors offensive errors to go up 11-3. The Warriors showed perseverance, securing five straight points, beginning with a Kill from Morgan Thurlow. However, the pioneers had a different agenda and went on to win the third set, 25-19.

Stats and Facts

  • Mckenna Shotwell led the Warriors with 9 points, 9 kills, and 9 digs
  • Morgan Thurlow had 8 points and was credited with 3 blocks
  • Lily Konrad paced all Warriors with 13 assists

    The Warriors will look for a rematch against Sacred Heart University as they stay in Fairfield Connecticut to face the Pioneers tomorrow at 1 PM.
