The thoughts of the global Volleyball Family are with those affected by the tragic earthquakes
In the early hours of Monday, the southern section of Türkiye and neighbouring Syria were shaken by a devastating earthquake which has already claimed thousands of casualties. Therefore, the FIVB and CEV – together with the Turkish Volleyball Federation – have agreed upon cancelling the opening event of this year’s Snow Volleyball season, the World Tour event originally due to take place from February 23-26 in the city of Kahramanmaras.
The area around the ski resort is among those most heavily affected by the quake and under the current circumstances, it becomes obviously impossible to go ahead with the planning and delivery of such a major sporting event.
As far as the events scheduled for early March in the Turkish city of Sivas are concerned, the FIVB and CEV are in close contact with the local organisers and further information will be provided in due course.
At this stage, priority goes to rescue efforts undertaken to support thousands of people. The Volleyball community extends the most heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those that have lost their lives as a result of this devastating quake and a speedy recovery to the injured ones. We all keep the Turkish nation and its people in our thoughts and prayers, while wishing much strength and resilience to the many officials and volunteers currently involved in the relief efforts on the ground.
