Belgian volleyball team Asterix Avo Beveren and Croatian side HAOK Mladost have secured their places in the second round of the CEV Champions League qualifiers from Pool 1. The decisive matches took place in Zagreb, where Belgian Asterix Avo Beveren pulled off a close win against OK Herceg Novi with a scoreline of 3-2. Not to be outdone, the home team from Zagreb celebrated their win over OK Gacko, finishing 3-1. Both teams will now continue their quest for a spot in the Champions League from Pool 1.
In a parallel development from Pool 2, Volley Alba Blaj and Kralovo Pole Brno also advanced to the next qualifying round.
This year’s qualifying structure experienced a notable shift. For Round 1, teams are now grouped into two separate tournaments, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the second round. The coveted prize? Only two final spots in the Champions League pool phase.
For the CEV Champions League Volley Women’s Round 1, the team lineup was as follows:
- Pool 1: OK Gacko (BIH), Asterix Avo Beveren (BEL), Mladost Zagreb (CRO), OK Herceg Novi (MNE).
- Pool 2: CS Volei Alba Blaj (ROU), CV Gran Canaria (ESP), Kralovo Pole Brno (CZE).
It’s important to note that Hapoel Kfar Saba (ISR) was initially set to compete but had to withdraw. As a result, all their scheduled matches are recorded as 0-3 losses.
