Asian sides are doing very well in the 2022 FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship in the Netherlands and Poland thus far.
Just like Thailand’s, the journey of another two Asian sides in the Women’s World Championship 2022 began with victories: China beat Argentina in three sets. Japan was better than Colombia in three sets, but their win was even more convincing – both matches took place in Pool D in Arnhem, the Netherlands. The only national team from Asia that failed to earn a victory in the opener of the tournament was Korea.
For China, the debut was not a walk in the park. Their head coach Cai Bin kept one of the country’s most popular players, the opposite Gong Xiangyu, at rest. She got an ankle injury in training, but the staff hopes to recover the player soon. Li Yingying top-scored for China with 22 points today. Yuan Xinyue made 4 blocks. Erika Mercado put down 14 points for Argentina.
Even though they conceded even double the opponent’s errors (20 to 10), Japan beat Colombia, commanding the game effortlessly thanks to the offensive sequences of Arisa Inoue (21 points). The South Americans failed to bring any players in double figures onto the scoreboard.
Kenya became the first team in the competition to suffer two defeats in as many games played. At the same time, Belgium put their name at the top of the list of the sides who are 2-0. The day after their 3-0 win against Puerto Rico, the ‘Yellow Tigers’ beat Kenya in Pool A in Arnhem by the same score.
