Zoey Henson was named AVCA First Team All-American for this year. Henson is one of 22 athletes to make the list, eight on both the first and second teams, as well as six honorable mention selections.
The 2023 All-Americans include players from seven states. California leads the way with eight, followed by Texas with six, and Georgia with three. Rounding out the list are two players from Arizona and one All-American each from Florida, North Carolina, and Ohio.
Henson is the first Husky beach high school recruit to earn this prestigious honor. Current Husky Piper Monk-Heidrich was named AVCA First Team All-American in 2018 prior to enrolling at UCLA
The 5-11 defender from Cyprus Hill, Calif is part of a highly decorated recruiting class for the Huskies that is set to establish the Beach Dawgs as a national brand. The newest recruiting class is made up of 11 members including many firsts for the program such as UW’s first ever sister duo on the beach, Lauren and Sarah Wilcock, as well was UW’s first ever international recruit, Magdalena Rabitsch, from Austria and finally Coach Derek Olson‘s first Husky Junior Beach All-American in Zoey Henson.
“In my opinion, there isn’t a better recruit in the country for this year’s class. She has won multiple national championships at the junior level and has the skills and characteristics to go really far in this sport. I have been fortunate to coach Zoey within the USA pipeline and her ability to play with anyone and get the most out of them speaks to the type of person she is. She will make an immediate impact and Husky fans are going to love getting to know her,” Coach Olson said.
Henson and the 2023 recruiting class are poised to build off the greatest season in program history as they finished ranked No. 15 in the country, which is the highest finish in program history to end the season.
