KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – No. 12 Tennessee took the first set and three Lady Vols registered double-doubles, but it wasn’t enough as No. 10 Arkansas (27-25, 16-25, 22-25, 20-25) won in four sets Friday night at Food City Center.
The Lady Vols (16-3, 7-2 SEC) were led by graduate students Raeven Chase and Jenaisya Moore with 13 kills each. Chase earned five blocks in the contest, giving her a season high in both kills and blocks. Moore added 10 digs as well, marking her first double-double since the 2020-21 campaign. Fellow graduate student Morgahn Fingall also recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 15 digs. The double-double marked her fourth on the year, and her dig total was her most so far this season.
On the back line, redshirt freshman Caroline Kerr dominated with 49 assists and a career-high 19 digs rounding out the double-doubles for UT. Joining her was graduate student Yelianiz Torres, who eclipsed 30 digs for the sixth time in her career and notched the most by a Lady Vol this season. As a team, Tennessee recorded a season-high 107 total digs.
The Razorbacks (18-2, 8-0 SEC) recorded just two more kills than the Lady Vols but held a hitting percentage of .236 compared to UT’s .152. Arkansas also recorded four service aces during the match.
After Arkansas held the momentum for much of the opening frame and facing a 20-16 deficit, the Lady Vols stormed back to tie things up at 22-22. From there, both teams went back and forth, but it was Tennessee that took the early advantage thanks to three straight points after facing set point by the Razorbacks. Fingall had five kills to lead the offense, while Kerr had 17 assists and three blocks in the period.
The second set was close early, but an 11-4 swing in the middle of the frame by Arkansas shifted all the momentum in its favor. UT hit just .045 compared to the Razorbacks’ .256 hitting. In the third period, both defenses limited the offensive attacks, but it was a 4-0 run by Arkansas that made it 23-19 that ended up being the difference in the frame.
The Lady Vols battled throughout the fourth set, bringing the score to a tie three times throughout. However, the Razorbacks again recorded four consecutive points after Tennessee cut the deficit to 16-17, which was too much to recover from for UT. Tennessee was led by Moore and Chase who recorded five kills each during the frame, along with Kerr who had 14 assists.
