KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Three Lady Vols finished with double-digit kills to pace No. 15 Tennessee in a sweep (25-13, 25-14, 25-13) over Chicago State on Thursday night at Thompson-Boling Arena at Food City Center.
The Big Orange (8-1) now owns six sweeps on the season. As a team, Tennessee bested the Cougars (6-3) in every category in the match. The Lady Vols held a 50-24 advantage in kills and out hit CSU .392 to .129. UT finished with 42 assists, 40 digs, six blocks and five aces.
Spearheading the attack for Tennessee was junior outside hitter Erykah Lovett, who tallied 12 kills, six digs, three assists and two aces in the all-around performance. Graduate student outside hitter Jenaisya Moore posted 10 kills and seven digs, while graduate student right side hitter Morgahn Fingall added 10 kills, four digs and two blocks on the night.
The reigning SEC Setter of the Week, redshirt freshman Caroline Kerr recorded a career-best six kills on six attacks to go along with 31 assists, three digs, one ace and a block. Defensively, graduate student libero Yelianiz Torres had a match-high 13 digs, six assists and an ace. Junior defensive specialist Ashllyn King posted six digs, one kill and an ace. On the front row, redshirt sophomore middle blocker Emily Beeker finished with six kills and four blocks, while sophomore Keondreya Granberry chipped in five kills and two blocks.
In the first set, Lovett led the way with six kills on eight attacks to go along with a pair of aces. Defensively, the Lady Vols held Chicago State to a .000 hitting percentage for the frame. The Big Orange ended the period on a 6-0 run to take the early advantage.
The Tennessee attack once again was too much for the Cougars to handle, as the Lady Vols out hit CSU .486 to .233. UT used a 15-6 run to end the period. Lovett added five more kills in the frame to eclipse double digits for the match. Fingall and Moore both chipped in four kills each.
In the final frame, the Big Orange put the match away quickly behind a 12-3 run to end the set. Kerr had four kills and eight assists to pace Tennessee, while Moore added four kills and three digs of her own. The Lady Vols out hit Chicago State .424 to .138 in the period to complete the sweep
