ROSEMONT, Ill. – The Big Ten Conference announced Tuesday a full breakdown of its 140 volleyball conference matches for all 14 schools for the 2022 season.
Each school will play a 20-match conference schedule, facing seven schools both home and away and playing the six remaining schools once. Of the single-play opponents, schools will play three at home and three on the road.
The Big Ten Conference season begins Friday, Sept. 23, with all 14 conference schools in action. Matches will be played on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, with teams competing twice in Big Ten play each week.
The Big Ten Conference champion will also receive the conference’s automatic qualifier to the 2022 NCAA Tournament that will be played Dec. 1-17, culminating with the national semifinals and championship match on Dec. 15 & 17 at CHI Health Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska.
Wisconsin is the defending national and Big Ten champion, winning its first NCAA title last season with a thrilling five-set victory over fellow conference member Nebraska. It was the ninth time in the past 15 seasons a Big Ten school won the NCAA volleyball national championship, and the 12th time in that span the Big Ten has sent at least one team to the national championship match, the most of any conference.
