25th-ranked Cougars on the road to visit Arizona State Friday night in Tempe


PULLMAN, Wash. —  The 25th-ranked Washington State volleyball team (17-8, 9-5 Pac-12) will make its final road trip of the 2022 Pac-12 season this weekend beginning with a trip to Tempe, Ariz., to take on Arizona State (11-15, 5-9 Pac-12) Friday night at the Desert Financial Arena.  Viewers can stream Friday’s match live on the ASU Live Stream.

The Cougars head into their Arizona road trip coming off of a weekend split in Oregon last week in which they swept Oregon State last Friday night before falling on the road at 16th-ranked Oregon on Sunday.  WSU finished its two matches last weekend at .319 hitting as a team (109-28-254) with a 17-9.5 advantage in blocks over the two Oregon schools combined.  Laura Jansen (4.43) and Pia Timmer (4.29) each averaged over four kills per set last week while setter Argentina Ung tallied five aces between the two matches.

>> WSU cracked the AVCA Top-25 for the first time in 2022 on Monday, reaching the No. 25 spot after last week’s 25th-ranked team, Iowa State, dropped out of this week’s coaches’ poll.

>> The Cougars finished the 2021 season at No. 23 in the AVCA Top-25 and were receiving votes in eight of the first 11 top-25 polls of the season before finally reach their first national ranking of the season in the Week 11 poll on Monday.

>> Washington State has split each of the last two weekends with its two losses both coming in top-25 matchups (vs. No. 9 Stanford, at No. 12 Oregon).  Washington State is 16-1 this season against teams outside the top-25 and has won 22 of 23 against unranked teams dating back to last season.
