#5 Seed Volleyball Sweeps Georgia in First Round

PROVO, Utah – Behind strong offensive performances from Marta Levinska and Geli Cyr, No. 5 seed Sun Devil Volleyball made a statement in the first round of the NCAA Tournament by sweeping Georgia (25-21, 25-12, 25-20) on Friday night at the Smith Fieldhouse.

Notable Stats

  • Arizona State (27-6) got its first NCAA Tournament win since 2014 by beating Georgia (19-12). ASU now has 27 wins on the year, which is tied for the second-highest win total in program history. Additionally, this was the 19th sweep of the season, extending the single-season program record.
  • The Sun Devils hit .427 in the win, which is an ASU record in an NCAA Tournament match. 
  • Junior outside hitter Geli Cyr hit .529, which is also an NCAA Tournament record for a Sun Devil. She had 10 kills and seven digs.
  • Senior opposite Marta Levinska led all players in kills with 17 on a .464 clip. This was her 18th match in a row with double-digit digs. She also had four blocks.
  • The block was on fire in the win as Arizona State had 10, the team’s ninth this season with 10 or more. Graduate middle blocker Maddie McLaughlin led the way with seven blocks, followed by Levinska’s four.
