MAYVILLE, ND — The Waldorf Volleyball Team picked up its first North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) victory of the 2021 season by winning on the road at Mayville State in straight sets Saturday, 25-23, 25-23, 25-19.

The victory for the Warriors (10-13, 1-9 NSAA) marks the first win in program history at Mayville State, who had previously won all contests it hosted with the Warriors since beginning the series in 2011.  Waldorf’s sweep of an NSAA opponent is its first since winning 3-0 over Mayville in Forest City on November 27, 2018.

Junior setter Kaitlyn Bakke (Forest Lake, MN/Canby HS) dominated in the middle with a game-high 40 assists, which outpaced the entire Comets team (23), and all other players for both teams combined (28).

Sophomore outside hitter Kenzie Kidd (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah HS) led the way for the Warriors with a game-high 15 kills.  Junior middle blocker Abygail Wood (Ankeny, IA/Ankeny Centennial HS) also registered double-digit digs, contributing 12.

Defensively, Waldorf benefitted from a balanced effort that saw four players register at least ten digs.  Sophomore Trinity Perez (Worthing, SD/Roosevelt HS) notched a game-high 19 digs, while sophomore Kaylee Kidd (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah HS) followed with 18.  Kenzie Kidd tallied 14 digs, and junior Jensen Gabora (Canora, Saskatchewan, Canada/Lake Region State) registered ten.

“It was nice to see our hard work pay off on the court,” said Waldorf Head Coach Bri Ebenhoe.  “The perseverance of this team has been tested but through everything they fought together to get a conference win.”

The Warriors return home for four straight home conference matches to finish the 2021 regular season.  Waldorf returns to action on Friday night against Valley City State at 7:00 p.m. at the Hanson Fieldhouse.
