FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Washington’s outside hitters hit their stride today, and fittingly, hometown hero Ella May Powell found herself with an open net for a kill on match point, as the Husky volleyball team (1-1) earned its first win in a rematch with Arkansas after the Razorbacks had won the opener on Friday night. Today the Husky offense hit .351 with impressive outings from Claire Hoffman, Madi Endsley, and Emoni Bush, and 54 assists from Powell.
The Dawgs dropped a hard-fought first set that could have led to a second-straight upset against the preseason No. 4 team in the SEC, but UW dominated set two and then won hard-fought third and fourth sets for a 25-27, 25-13, 25-22, 25-20 win at Barnhill Arena.
Head Coach Keegan Cook said his squad was a lot better in areas it values. “We’re trying to decide what team we’re going to be and we have some young athletes that are developing,” he said. “So you have to decide what your identity is as a team and I thought we found it tonight with our serving and receiving and our outside hitting. The big chunks of the game, last night those were missing. We did a lot of high level things last night but we didn’t do the simple things well. Today we made sure we did the simple things well and built on top of it.”
