SEATTLE – Washington Volleyball was never able to find its best throughout a four set defeat by 24th-ranked Pepperdine this morning at Alaska Airlines Arena. The Huskies dropped to 4-2 with a 25-18, 22-25, 25-20, 25-20 loss in what was the first of two matches for the Dawgs today. UW will try end the day back in the win column with a 7:30 p.m. match against Cal Poly.
Pepperdine hit .294 for the match, and the Huskies hit a season-low .210. The Waves (7-1) had a 64-50 advantage in digs, and the Huskies uncharacteristically hurt themselves at the service line, missing 12 serves while earning three aces. Pepperdine also had an edge in blocks, 13.0 to 10.0.
Ella May Powell had 40 assists and five blocks plus seven digs and four kills, while Claire Hoffman had a team-high 17 kills and 10 digs and Madi Endsley added 10 kills. Sophomore libero Lauren Bays had a season-best 19 digs, while Marin Grote had six blocks and seven kills.
“Serve and serve-receive was the first thing that jumped out,” said Head Coach Keegan Cook. “Not very effective serving and pretty high error as well, which is always difficult because we pride ourselves on it. Pepperdine was great in that space. Then just not winning medium pass and dig situations, just hitting high hands. We actually had a relatively effective blocking day, but they found high hands a lot, and we couldn’t find high hands the way that they did. So I…
