MADISON, Wis. — Gulce Guctekin, a rookie on the Wisconsin volleyball team, has been named the Big Ten Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. She earns her first weekly conference award, aiding the Badgers to a 2-0 record last weekend.
A 5-foot-5 libero, Guctekin recorded double-figure digs in both matches last weekend, sharing match-high honors with 11 digs vs. No. 14 Kentucky and adding a match-high 15 digs vs. Campbell. She averaged 4.33 digs per set over the two matches.
From the service line, the Istanbul native averaged an impressive 1.00 service aces per set. Guctekin tied her career high with three service aces in both matches. She has three service aces in her last three matches and leads the Badgers with 12 service aces this season, averaging 0.57 per set.
Fourth-ranked Wisconsin (5-1) wraps up the non-conference season by hosting No. 16 Florida (6-2) on Friday in the Kohl Center, First serve is at 7:30 p.m. live on the Big Ten Network. The Badgers are looking to break the regular-season attendance record of 15,797, set at the CHI Health Center in Omaha, Nebraska, on Sept. 7, 2022, when Nebraska edged Creighton, 3-2.
On Sunday, UW takes on Rhode Island (3-6) back in the Field House at 1 p.m. The Rams are coached by former Badger volunteer assistant coach Angel Agu.
