JACKSON, Mich. – On Monday afternoon, the Crossroads League announced its latest collection of weekly awards, in which a trio of Trojans swept the volleyball player-of-the-week honors.
After leading the Trojans to a 4-1 week, seniors Kacy Bragg and Ryan Czerniak respectively won Setter and Attacker of the Week, while sophomore Grace Ieremia was named the CL Defender of the Week. Furthermore, for each member of the Trojan trio, this week’s honor already marks the second award of the young season.
Bragg was honored in recognition of her continued excellence with the set, averaging 10.50 assists-per-set throughout Taylor’s 18 sets played while surpassing the 40-assist mark in a pair of matches. TU’s setter was also active on the defensive end, averaging nearly three digs-per-set and posting three double-doubles throughout the week.
The senior from Warsaw, Indiana, has now achieved 30-or-more assists in 13 of Taylor’s 15 matches this season and currently leads the Crossroads League with a season average of 10.54 assists-per-set.
Meanwhile, Czerniak notched her second attacker-of-the-week award for doing much of the same work she’s been doing all season. This most-recent exceptional week for Czerniak included five matches with double-digit kill numbers, including 21-kill and 18-kill performances at the Viterbo Tournament in La Crosse, Wisconsin.
Czerniak averaged 4.11 kills-per-set throughout the week, while maintaining a ridiculous hitting percentage of .466. In TU’s three-set sweep of Rochester, Czerniak pounded 16 kills in just 21 attacks for a single-match hitting percentage of .667. The lefty right-side hitter from Danville, Indiana, now leads the entire nation with 231 kills and a season hitting percentage of .456.
While Bragg and Czerniak fueled the Trojan offensive attack, Ieremia bolstered the TU defense by racking up 19 total blocks alongside just a single error. In Taylor’s first match of the week, a three-set sweep over RV Bethel, Ieremia totaled six blocks for an average of 2.0 blocks-per-set. Additionally, the TU mid-hitter sent back three solo blocks in Taylor’s route of Rochester.
Ieremia now sits second in the Crossroads League with a season average of 1.10 blocks-per-set.
