Bison close out home schedule on Dig Pink night against Marymount


WASHINGTON – The Gallaudet University women’s volleyball team dropped a 3-0 non-conference match to Marymount (Va.) University here Wednesday night in the Field House. The Bison participated in the American Volleyball Coaches Association’s Dig Pink night as the team wore special pink uniforms and fans wore pink to show support for cancer awareness. 

Gallaudet (17-14) dropped the first set 14-25 before it bounced back and played closer sets against Marymount (16-13) the rest of the way. GU led early in the second set up 10-6 and later tied things up at 18 apiece before the Saints scored seven of the next eight points to win, 19-25. Marymount jumped out to a quick lead in the third and final set and never looked back. GU got to within four points on several occasions, 18-14, 20-16, 24-20, but couldn’t get the lead as the Saints won 20-25. 

Freshman outside hitter Citrine Lummer (Frederick, Md.) led the Bison with eight kills, 12 digs and three aces. Junior opposite Emily Wright (Penn Valley, Calif.) tallied seven kills while sophomore Hannah Weiss (Riverside, Calif.) added six kills from the outside. Junior setter Emma Giuntoli (Austin, Texas) passed out 21 assists and junior Leila Sicoli (Austin, Texas) added to her 1,000+ career digs as she made a team-high 19 digs and five aces.

Marymount was led by Myia Jeter’s 11 kills while Alexis Franklin and Sydney Sands tallied 17 assists each in the win.

UP NEXT
GU will wrap up the regular-season schedule this Saturday, Oct. 29, at Penn St.-Berks for two United East Conference matches. The Bison (5-1 United East) will face the Nittany Lions (17-8, 5-1 United East) at noon followed by a 2 p.m. match against Wells College (12-11, 2-4 United East).
