Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina, 11 November 2022 – “The Brazilian men’s team deserved this medal,” Renato Leite de Oliveira said after they beat Egypt 3-1 (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 26-24) in the 2022 World ParaVolley Sitting Volleyball World Championship on Friday.
Brazil won their second straight bronze medal in the tournament, following their silver medal finish at Elblag 2014.
“I am happy for this victory. We have been working hard in the last 15 years and we are all proud to win consecutive medals in the last three editions of the World Championships,” the Brazilian captain said.
“We were able to maintain our good level of play in the last three editions because we have a sitting volleyball programme in our country. We have three club divisions, and we compete regularly in international competitions. These things helped us to have this result in the World Championship.
“Winning here was an emotional moment for me. We had a difficult time playing against Iran. They are a fantastic team. So recovering from that and winning bronze was a blessing. This is probably my last stint with the national team as a player, but I want to finish my career with a medal in Paris.”
