BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – At Bowling Green High School, the Lindsey Wilson volleyball team saw its latest postseason run come to an emotional end against its Highway 55 rival Campbellsville University.
Despite ending the evening nearly even in attack errors and digs, the Tigers found their success on offense early and got the better of the Blue Raiders with 51 total kills.
Alexis Smith struck for a team-high 10 of the local’s 33 successful hits, followed by Elisa Burzio and Savanah Pippin with eight each. Camryn Rich recorded her second consecutive double-double, finishing with 29 assists and 19 digs to lead all Blue Raiders in both categories.
A strong 7-2 start by Campbellsville gave them all the right momentum moving forward in the opening set. Lindsey Wilson crept to within three points at one point, but the Tigers utilized a spark in their attack to pull away, 25-15.
The action was back-and-forth throughout the middle frame, and the Blue Raiders found themselves ahead 12-9 behind a kill from Smith and a subsequent service ace by Embry Burgess. The Tigers fought back to retake the lead, but Lindsey Wilson stayed in striking distance until a 7-2 run ultimately pushed Campbellsville to the end, 25-21.
The two sides got off to a similar start in the third set, with Lindsey Wilson eventually opening its biggest lead of the match at 14-10. Burzio, Smith, Pippin, and Aleksandra Wyrzkowska provided the hits to help the Blue Raiders in front during that stretch. The Tigers, however, refused to lose any further ground, and following a timeout, posted an 8-1 swing that carried them through to the final whistle.
Lindsey Wilson concludes its 2022 campaign with its 12th-straight winning season, closing at 14-13 overall.
