Tufono Ties Program Ace Record in 3-2 Loss to Ducks

EUGENE, Ore. – Freshman Mokihana Tufono tied the program record for service aces in a match with eight in the UCLA women’s volleyball team’s 3-2 loss to No. 12 Oregon at Matthew Knight Arena on Friday. The mark was the most by a UCLA freshman in program history.
 
Set scores of the Bruins’ loss were 18-25, 27-25, 25-16, 22-25, 10-15.
 
UCLA (14-12, 8-9 Pac-12) had 11 total service aces as a team which tied its former season-high set versus Texas State on Sept. 2 at the Outrigger Volleyball Challenge. Also notable, Mackenzie Cole recorded her 2,000th career dig in the first set tonight. Cole totaled 1,664 digs in her four seasons at Duke and is now up to 355 digs in her time as a Bruin.  
 
Tufono’s performance tied previous marks set by UCLA greats Mac May, Liz Masakayan and Bojana Todorovic. Tufono scored her aces in bunches with five in the third, two in the fourth and one in the fifth. She had just one service error in her match-high 26 attempts.
 
Tufono closed out the Bruins’ third set victory with a 4-0 run at the service line with back-to-back aces.
