Vikings Pickup 4th-Straight Road Win Over the Pride

Dubuque, IA – Grand View men’s volleyball traveled to Clarke University for their 4th road game in a row. The Vikings defeated the Pride in four sets with scores of, 25-20, 25-15, 25-19, and 25-19. 

Set 1: Grand View University 25 l Clarke University 20

The Vikings would pick up where they left off from this past weekend, picking up an early large lead in the first set. Zeo Meyer (JR/Wheaton, IL ) opened up the contest with an ace to set the tone. A block by Meyer and Gioele Iacono (SO/Milan, Italy ) would put the Vikings up 9-5. Dalton Dencklau (SR/Lehigh, IA ) would join in with an ace of his own furthering the Viking’s lead, 15-10. A kill from Iacono would make the score 22-16, and it would be followed up with a kill from Nickolas Lima (FR/Curitiba, Brazil ). The first set would finish with Daniel Wong (SR/Campbell, CA ) getting a kill starting his night up and going into the second set with the victory, 25-20. 

Set 2: Grand View University 25 l Clarke University 15

The second set would start rocky for the Vikings as the Pride capitalized on Viking errors. The Vikings would begin to gather a run after a kill for Meyer and Bayron Valdez (JR/Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic). The Vikings would get their first second-set lead with a kill from Wong, 7-6. The two teams would trade points until the Vikings saw a late run, a kill from Iacono, and a string of errors would force the Pride into a timeout as they trailed, 18-13. Wong would show no mercy out of the timeout as he grabbed another kill. The 2nd set would end with another ace from Dencklau, and a Wong kill, 25-15. 

Set 3: Grand View University 19 l Clarke University 25

The third set would start fine for the Vikings, as they would get early kills from Nicolas Vattier (SO/Santiago, Chile), Valdez, and Lima giving them the early lead, 3-1. The Pride would get hot and go on a run of their own, as they would find gaps in the Viking’s defense. Coach Nogueria would call a timeout hoping to gather some momentum after trailing, 13-8. Brendan Edgington (SR/Ankeny, IA ) would provide an answer for the Vikings with a kill assisted by Meyer, making the score 17-12 in favor of the Pride. A few costly errors and a lack of from the Pride would force a 4th set with a score of 25-19. 

Set 3: Grand View University 25 l Clarke University 19

The Pride would strike first in the forced 4th. Iacono would et the first fourth…
