Washington Beach Volleyball Heads to Honolulu for Queens Cup

SEATTLE – The No. 14 Washington Beach Volleyball team heads down to the Aloha state for the Queens Cup tournament where they will face two top 20 teams, No. 9 Hawaii and No. 11 California, along with Oregon, Nebraska, and Texas. The tournament will take place on Queens Beach in Honolulu, Hawaii, March 10-12, hosted by the Rainbows. 

Washington will play twice on Friday, twice on Saturday, and once on Sunday. To start the weekend off the Huskies will face Oregon, who they swept 5-0 in their last match at the Pac-12 South Invitational. The Huskies will then face No. 11 California in hopes to grab another in-conference win. Saturday will start off facing Nebraska, then facing host No. 9 Hawaii. Lastly, to finish out the weekend the Huskies will play Texas who is in their inaugural beach volleyball season. 

 

Washington will play Oregon in hopes to secure another win like the previous weekend. The Ducks went 0-4 last weekend at the Pac-12 South Invitational and are looking to grab a win to break their losing streak. 

Later that day the Dawgs will face the No. 11 California Golden Bears. California is 6-2 overall with their losses only coming from No. 8 LMU and No. 2 USC. Pair Ainsley Radell and Ashley Delgado are a notable duo after defeating USC at the No. 2 pair. 

Saturday will start off with the Nebraska Huskers who are currently 7-1 on the season, their only loss coming from Spring Hill College. This will be the Huskers first Top-20 matchup all season. 

 

Shortly after the Huskies will face Host No. 9 Hawaii. The Rainbows are currently 7-3 on the season with their only losses coming from No. 7 Stanford twice and No. 3 UCLA. Returners Jamie Santer and Brooke Van Sickle will be a competitive top pair for the Huskies. 

 

To finish out the weekend the Huskies will face the Texas Longhorns. This tournament will be Longhorns inaugural outing for the start of their program. The longhorns added a beach volleyball program to their athletic department in August of last year and are playing a condensed, 14-match season.
