Elmira Men’s Volleyball Duo Garners UVC All-Conference Recognition


HILTON, N.Y. – The United Volleyball Conference announced its 2023 individual awards and all-conference teams on Wednesday, April 12. The awards are voted on by the league’s head coaches. Amongst the recipients were Elmira’s Oscar Munoz Trinidad ’23 and Alberto Mauricio ’25, who garnered first-team honors after a successful 2023 regular season.
 

A native of Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, Munoz Trinidad earns his second all-conference selection from the UVC after garnering an honorable mention during his senior campaign for the Purple & Gold. He currently leads Elmira with a .338 hitting percentage this season, which also ranks 39th in NCAA Division Men’s Volleyball.
 
A well-rounded player for the Soaring Eagles, Munoz Trinidad ranks second on the team in kills (224), third in digs (94), third in blocks (19), and third in service aces (20). Following his 2022 campaign for the Soaring Eagles, Munoz Trinidad was named UVC second-team all-conference.
 

Mauricio, a native of San Pedro De Macoris, Dominican Republic, was named UVC first-team all-conference after having a breakout sophomore campaign on the court for the Purple & Gold. The 2022 Empire 8 Conference Rookie of the Year and 2022 FrogJump All-Freshmen Team recipient paced Elmira during the regular season in kills (337), service aces (27), and kills per set (4.96) while ranking second on the team in digs (145) and fourth in blocks (15).
 
On a national level, Mauricio leads NCAA Division III Men’s Volleyball this season in kills per set and ranks third in attacks per set (10.99) and points per set (5.53). This season, Mauricio was named the UVC Player of the Week on two different occasions and set a career-high in kills after tallying 31 in a five-set upset against nationally ranked New York University at home.
 
Top-ranked Vassar is set to host the six-team 2023 UVC Championship Tournament this weekend. The quarterfinals will be played on Friday, as No. 4 MIT and No. 5 Elmira meet at 5 p.m., while No. 3 St. John Fisher takes on No. 6 NYU at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, top-seed Vassar will play the winner of MIT vs. Elmira in one semifinal at 2:30 p.m., while No. 2 seed New Paltz will face the winner of St. John Fisher vs. NYU in the second semifinal at 5 p.m. The two semifinal winners will meet for the 2023 UVC Championship on Sunday, April 16 at 2…
