DURHAM – The Duke volleyball program and head coach Jolene Nagel announced the addition of Jess Robinson and Emma Worthington to the 2023 squad as graduate transfers.
Robinson comes to Durham after spending four years at Michigan as a 6-2 middle blocker. During her senior season, she broke the school record career hitting percentage (.341) and the record for a single season Big Ten hitting percentage at Michigan (.388). She captured AVCA All-North Region first team honors and excelled in the classroom, landing on the All-Big Ten academic list, the CSC Academic All-District and was a Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2021.
In the fall, she held the top spot nationally in hitting percentage for eight of the first nine weeks of the season and finished the year third nationally with a .438 clip on 427 attempts. She recorded 10 or more kills in 12 matches as she appeared and started in all 30 matches, collecting 239 kills, 120 blocks, 46 digs and seven assists.
“We are absolutely thrilled that Jess chose to finish her collegiate career as a Blue Devil,” Nagel said. “Not only has she set records at Michigan, but she’s made her presence known on the NCAA-level, finishing third in Division I in hitting percentage her senior year. Tremendous accolades aside, she brings a competitive spirit and a level of maturity on and off the court that will be impactful for us right away. It didn’t take long for Jess to become a beloved member of the Duke volleyball family and we have enjoyed getting to know her and her family over these last few months.”
Worthington joins the Blue Devils after spending four years at Cornell as a 5-11 setter. During her senior year, she served as the team captain for the 2022 season and saw action in all 23 contests, leading the team in assists (746) and assists per set (8.99). Her assist and assist per set numbers ranked third most in the Ivy League as she posted a career-high 54 assists in a five-set match at Penn. She had seven double-doubles on the year, highlighted by the 54-assists, 24 dig performance against the Quakers.
