EVANSTON, Ill. (June 15, 2023) – Northwestern learned the path it will take through Big Ten Conference play following the release of the league’s 2023 volleyball schedule on Wednesday by the conference office.
Head coach Shane Davis‘ team will be tested out of the gate as it entertains four-time defending Big Ten Champion Wisconsin inside Welsh-Ryan Arena on September 22 as part of a homestand that also features matchups with Penn State (Sept. 24) and Michigan State (Sept. 29). A three-match road trip opens the month of October, as the ‘Cats visit Purdue on October 1 ahead of clashes with Michigan (Oct. 6) and Michigan State (Oct. 7).
Maryland provides the opposition on October 13 to begin a stretch that sees the Wildcats play four of their next six matches at home. After traveling to Minnesota (Oct. 15), Nebraska (Oct. 18) and Michigan (Oct. 21) will come to Evanston. October concludes with a trip to Ohio State (Oct. 25) and home tilt against Indiana (Oct. 29).
Northwestern raises the curtain on November by heading downstate to Champaign, Ill. on November 1 to take on Illinois. After returning to Welsh-Ryan Arena to host Minnesota on November 5, the ‘Cats will embark on a grueling four-match road swing that includes matchups with Nebraska (Nov. 12), Iowa (Nov. 12), Rutgers (Nov. 17), and Penn State (Nov. 18). Northwestern makes its way back to Evanston for the final time after Thanksgiving, wrapping up the regular season against Iowa (Nov. 24) and Illinois (Nov. 25).
In his seventh year at the helm, Davis guided Northwestern to an 18-14 finish (7-13 B1G), the program’s top win total since 2010. The Wildcats defeated a trio of ranked opponents, highlighted by a five-set victory at No. 7 Minnesota, the first road win over a top-10 opponent in Northwestern annals.
Information on season tickets for Northwestern Volleyball will be released in the coming weeks. Fans can secure their seat in Welsh-Ryan Arena this season by placing a $25 deposit for season tickets and will be contacted by a member of the Northwestern Ticket Office once season tickets are available.
