Gators Duo Tabbed to SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll

Brings total to 10 volleyball players earning academic honors during the 2022-2023 campaign.

GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Emily Canaan and Emerson Hoyle were each named to the SEC First Year Academic Honor Roll as the Southeastern Conference announced Thursday. That brings the Gator volleyball program’s total of academic accolades to 10 for the 2022-23 academic year.

Back in February, eight Gators were named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll.

Today’s announcement sets Florida’s record at 402 for total of student-athletes named to a 2022-23 SEC Academic Honor Roll to 402. The previous record of 378 was set in 2020-21 and equaled last season. Florida placed 322 on SEC Academic Honor Rolls (113 on fall list; 72 winter, 137 on spring) and 80 on the First-Year Honor Roll.

On the court, the Gators finished 25-6 and 15-3 in the SEC en route to the program’s 29th Regional Semifinal appearance and the team’s 25th SEC Championship. Three Gators earned All-SEC honors, while two players earned AVCA All-American status.

To be recognized for the SEC Academic Honor Roll, each student-athlete must meet the following criteria: 1) have a GPA of 3.00 for either the preceding academic year or have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or above at the nominating institution; 2) be on scholarship, a letterwinner or have participated on a varsity team for two years if non-scholarship; 3) have completed 24 semester hours of non-remedial credit at the nominating institution; and 4) have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment.
