‘Cats Earn AVCA Team Academic Award

EVANSTON, Ill. (July 13, 2023) – For the seventh straight year and ninth time in program history, the Northwestern volleyball program has earned the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award, it was announced on Thursday.  The Wildcats were one of nine Big Ten Conference teams to receive the award.

Established during the 1992-93 academic year, the AVCA Team Academic Award honors volleyball teams that maintain a year-long grade-point average of 3.30 on a 4.0 scale or 4.10 on a 5.0 scale.  Northwestern compiled a 3.575 team GPA during the 2022-23 academic year, with all 15 of its eligible student-athletes taking home Academic All-Big Ten distinction this past fall.

Preparing to begin his eighth season in charge, head coach Shane Davis‘ team will look to build off an 18-14 finish (7-13 B1G) in 2022, the program’s top win total since 2010.  In addition to an impressive group of returning letterwinners, the Wildcats will welcome in seven newcomers this fall, a group that includes the graduate transfer trio of Maddy Chinn, Ellie Husemann, and Julia Sangiacomo.
