Red Team Wins Red-Blue Scrimmage


TUCSON, Ariz. – The red team won the annual Red-Blue volleyball scrimmage on Saturday afternoon. The blue team won the first set, 25-22, but the red team won the next three sets (25-22, 25-28, 25-17) to win the scrimmage. The Red-Blue match was the first look at the Wildcats under head coach Charita Stubbs.

Five Wildcats tallied 10 or more kills in the scrimmage. Jaelyn Hodge and Puk Stubbe led the red team with 16 kills each. Sofia Maldonado Diaz recorded 10 kills for the red team. Transfer Jordan Wilson led the blue team with 13 kills and freshman Sydnie Vanek followed with 11 kills.

 

Junior Ana Heath tallied 41 assists during the match. Maldonado Diaz served three aces to lead all Wildcats while Heath and Giorgia Mandotti each tallied two aces. Freshman middle-blocker Journey Tucker had three block assists in the scrimmage. Alayna Johnson and Maldonado Diaz each had two blocks for the red team.

The 2023 squad will take the floor for the season-opener next weekend, Aug. 25-26 when Arizona hosts the Cactus Classic featuring North Carolina, UC Davis, and Pacific. Season tickets can be purchased here or by calling (520)621-CATS.
