Women’s Volleyball Falls in Season Opener

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Merrimack College women’s volleyball team lost its season opening match up against the Binghamton University on Friday night.

Rapid Recap

  • The Bearcats started the first set by scoring seven of the first 11 points. Ella Gizmunt then got a kill to pull the Warriors within two. Both teams battled back and forth. The Bearcats then added four straight points to go up six. Merrimack then scored three points in a row, including two kills from Hannah Webber. The Warriors found themselves down seven. Julz Carlat had a kill to pull Merrimack back within six. They would end up losing the set by four.
  • Merrimack was down six to start the second set. Cate Wright and Gizmut had back-to-back kills to cut the deficit to five. Binghamton would then go on a three-point streak to go up by eight. They would continue to dominate the second set, winning 25-13.
  • The Warriors were down once again in the third set by four. Webber had a kill to pull the squad within three. After back and forth play from both teams, Wright had a kill to keep the deficit at three. The Bearcats would add six straight to go up nine. They would finish the set, soon after.

    Top Performers // Notes

·       Merrimack had 27 kills in total in the defeat.
·       Carlat, Webber and Wright were tied for kills with seven each.
·       Mia Ardila finished with a team-high 23 assists.
